Review of The Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by Michael Y — 19 Mar 2011
A pretty bad movie. But then again, the tv that it's an adaptation of isn't that good either. But for what it's worth it is pretty funny.
Hazzard County (ironically) is a pretty peaceful town, that is if it weren't for the Duke family. Cousin's Bo and Luke, along with their cousin Daisy and Uncle Jesse, love to run wild, sell moonshine and pissing off the cheriff. The boys are excited when a local race car star returnes to town. But just when the boys are hoping for a race, the sinister Boss Hogg evicts the Duke's farm. Now the Dukes set out to know what Boss Hogg what's with their property. The movie is pretty hillbilly as it sounds. The writing is bad and the acting doesn't matter. But the movie's sorce material was never strong to begin with, so this adaptation is pretty on the ball, but made better because of it's vulgar humor and plenty of nudity to go around!
Most of the time this movie is pretty regular. It's depiction of it's southern town is pretty steriotypical, and it's presentation of the comedy is hard to swallow due to the silly writing. The movie's look as far as cinematography goes will be what you expect. But if credit is given where credit is due, the car chase stunts in this movie are executed very dangerously, and very exciting to watch. Definitely some of the best vehicle handleing can be seen in this movie, and captured on screen very well.
This ain't your family fun Dukes of Hazzard that the tv show used to be. This Dukes of Hazzard is aimed to be as inappropriate as possible. But in all honesty that's what makes this movie the slightest bit appealing. It's not good, but it's funny and sexy. That's about it.
