Review of The Duellists (1977) by Lasse C — 10 Jun 2009
Strong debut for Ridley Scott who has since grown into one of the most important and relevant directors of all time. He confidently directs his two leads to some of the best performances of their careers and with relatively limited means makes this low budget period piece seem like an epic movie.
Scott's background as a painter is also clearly felt as the images in this movie are nothing short of breathtaking - especially the ending shot is simply beautiful.
