Review of The Drop (2014) by Kenmei — 19 Sep 2014
This was a very good movie that had a very weird vibe to it the entire time. I'm not sure whether it was a good or bad one, but things seemed to move at a weird pace. The story was decent, but it did have a good twist at the end. What seems like a stereotypical gangster film turns into something else as two seemingly different stories converge into the ultimate climax.
The acting was good. Tom Hardy felt disjointed and extremely detached the entire movie but that was done intentionally. I don't know if I liked it myself but I respect the decision on why they had him do that. Gandolfini did a good job playing Cousin Marv in his final role. Overall, it was well acted and well done but I feel like the entire time that led up to the climax at the end was about as uninteresting as possible to set up the final scene. The movie felt like it was on cruise control the entire time and there really wasn't alot of exciting things happening on screen till the end. I would recommend it to most people but the movie is really steady in the way it does things and people need to understand that they're not getting a shoot-em-up like most other gangster movies. It's very different in how it goes about its business but it does it in a really good way.
