I really liked Roskam's Bullhead and this had the potential to be just as good. I think the problem is that the story was almost too thin and the movie tried to make it bigger than it was. I don't know if that makes sense, but it felt thin.
Which is also what makes the good parts amazing because of the buildup and tension. There are a few explosive moments and a few moments of high tension that are really well done. It was a good movie but not perfect.
