Review of The Drop (2006) by David S — 03 Jan 2015
Anyone knows I'm a Tom Hardy fan. One of the most talented and diverse actors with multiple accents, and abilities to transform a character into anything he wants. This is different. Kind of.
It's based on a Denis Lehane novel. It's going to be dark. It's going to be in either Boston or Brooklyn. It's going to feature strong accents, and dark secrets. It doesn't disappoint if that's what you're looking for.
It's such an odd movie. Quiet, barely getting out of second gear at any point. It's characters and their life dilemmas. Tom Hardy's bartender character is so toned down compared to any other character you've ever seen him portray. He goes so monotone (quite similar to Ryan Gosling's recent portrayals), that he seems slightly special.
If you can't sit through lots of dialogue, and you struggle to wait patiently for a twist that doesn't ever seem like it's coming, this isn't the film for you.
