Review of The Driller Killer (1979) by Rob R — 25 Jan 2009
Controversially, #11 of the Chilling Collection was a film that not only had I heard of, but one that I'd seen before. I don't remember thinking that much about it after watching it all those many years ago, but I rather enjoyed it this time round. Well, until he starts his rampage at which point it gets a bit boring.
I quite enjoyed the slapdash punk band which features significantly and Reno's 'yeah baby' lines were funny. Did I mention absolutely unnecessary lesbian shower scene? Classy. I also thought the cut to red at the end was fairly effective - perhaps more effective than the numerous scenes beforehand of our guy pretending to stick a drill into people's stomachs which, aside from a couple examples, had no gore factor, presumably due to low budget.
