Review of The Dressmaker (2015) by Alan M — 04 Nov 2015
I had read the book and really loved it so I was worried that the movie might let me down, but it didn't. The characters are such a welcome change from the usual drivel that is dished out and the cinematography is exquisite.
Even if you have read the book there is still surprise after surprise in this movie as you get so caught up in it you forget that you already know what happens. My only disappointment were that there were a few characters in the book that I was looking forward to seeing on the screen that obviously didn't make it but the movie is always different to the book.
I laughed, I winced, I squirmed, I smiled and I almost cried (unusual for me) and I came out wanting to see it again. I have read some of the other reviews and I can understand some of the comments (whilst I don't agree) about there being moments of almost slap stick, but thats life.
Sometimes people really are that bad. I loved it. Kate Winslet and Judy Davis were exceptional.
