Review of The Dressmaker (2015) by Rosz C — 09 Mar 2016
This is a very strange film. It looks like it's going to be light and amusing romance or at least quirky. And until more than half-way you still have hope, but after that it's a Greek tragedy! A small town full of interesting blackly humourous characters and a set that looks more like a play, it's beautiful to look at.
Some of the performances are great - Judy Davis in particular. However too many caricatures of Australia are wearing after a while. It ends a sad and bitter story and you are left bewildered as to how you got there.
