Review of The Dressmaker (2015) by Kate C — 21 Sep 2016
A wonderfully quirky film that both makes you laugh and cry. Kate Winslet and Liam Helmsworth each shine in this tale of rural Australian life. Every tiny town in the outback has secrets and legends, The Dressmaker allows the usual townsfolk to reveal an awkward tragedy in a humorous way.
Terrific performances, outstanding art direction, cinematography and costuming, make it a wonderful film. Lacking heroes and villains, the movie succeeds in providing satisfying entertainment. Hollywood should take note that non-formula, unpredictable stories can succeed.
4 out of 5 stars.
