Review of The Double Life of Véronique (1991) by Jason R — 23 May 2009
One of the few films I've seen that seems to transcend the medium, becoming a spiritual experience. The last movie I saw that had an impact on me like this was THE FLOWERS OF ST. FRANCIS, even though the two couldn't be more different.
It deals with those strange feelings we all have, feelings not unlike déjà vu and synchronicity. Krzysztof Kieslowski doesn't really let us into the heads of the lead character(s), instead opting to capture their faces and their souls.
What this film offers is completely unique, and the DVD Criterion has put together for it is a must-have.
