Review of The Double Hour (2009) by Silke B — 29 Nov 2011
Sonia (Kseniya Rappoport), a Chambermaid, and Guido (Filippo Timi), a security guard, meet at a speed dating. It seems like the shy widower and the sad loner fall in love. And the frail bonds between the two of them start to tighten, when suddenly the whole movie changes from a soft love-story to a rough crime-story! The couple gets into a raid.
It is hard to say anything about the story, without saying too much. So I will just tell you this: Sonia seems to have hard luck, people around her die, she gets haunted by the police, her past and by something from the other side.
While I had the questions in mind: "Do you really would want your dear deceased to come back?" "Would they come back the way they where?" I started to think on someting else. Does Sonia fantasize to get little messages from the other side, because she wants the person back? Or does she deserve to get haunted by that person? The whole movie took another turn I did not see coming. And suddenly everything made sense again.
I am not ashamed to tell you, that I would have liked to see the movie end differently. But I guess the neding I want, would have made the movie corny and dull to everyone of you.
