Review of The Double (2014) by Matt C — 26 May 2014
'Submarine' was the best film I saw last year so I added this to my list purely on the strength of that and I'm glad I did. This references so many cinematic and cultural touchstones but it's done in the way that Tarantino used to do when he was at his best, it's a tribute not a rip-off.
It's very weird, so you're definitely going to love this or hate it, but I was definitely in the former category. It's funny, it has a great cast (basically getting the band back together from 'Submarine') and it has some weird meanings that you can interpret as you wish.
Whatever Ayoade is going to make next, sign me up, I'm on board for whatever he has to offer.
