Review of The Double (2014) by Joe T — 24 Sep 2014
Doesn't raise to the same bar as his debut but still, I liked it. I love Kafka and this obviously has all the elements of one of his tremendously compelling novels. Look, Ayoade seems to me to be a young director honing his craft at the moment and I honestly believe he will become an important director in a few years.
Its a jagged and disjointed ending and this sort of ruins what is otherwise a clever, intriguing and well-shot film. Eisenberg comes at me on the double and to be honest, I'm no fan so I was moved to tell him to 'piss off' few times! He didn't hear me.
Fortunately there was the gorgeous Mia Wasikowska to revel in. She's a beauty! I thought it would have been funnier too, you know in an offbeat sort of way like Submarine was. Instead the humour was lost in the deep deep darkness.
Worth watching though when you consider the other lard thats out there...like The Equalizer for fucks sake!
