Review of The Dorm That Dripped Blood (1982) by Ms Amanda J — 11 May 2009

The Dorm That Dripped Blood (though also known as the not so original titles Pranks and Death Dorm) is one of those lost, low budget slashers from the early 80's as the Slasher Horror boom was starting to take off big time.

The story is about a small group of students to stay behind at the end of the semester to close down a dorm, but it looks like a few other people have stayed behind too, including a killer. Is the killer the creepy guy who lives in the nearby woods, or the womanizing creep who stays out late at night, or is it one of the fellow students? The plot, story, and acting is nothing to write home about, but its made up with some decent (and bloody) kills.

In fact, methinks the MPAA were out to lunch when this bad boy came through since, while superior slashers like The Burning and My Bloody Valentine suffered harsh censorship, The Dorm That Dripped Blood seems to have kept all of its blood intact.

I'm always creeped out a little when people are brutally killed when their asleep/unconscious and completely unaware of what's happening to them, and that happens twice in this film. Also, kudos to the filmmakers for having one of the more bleaker endings to come out of that time period.

The cast is relatively made up of unknowns, save for Daphne Zuniga, who has a small role in this film, but went on to do some more notable stuff, like Princess Vespa in Spaceballs, Toxic Avenger 2, and I believe she's on One Tree Hill these days.

Overall, better than I expected it to be, but pales in comparison to the top slashers out there.
