Review of The Doors (1991) by Jason M — 26 Jul 2010
I think due to the fact the film is very much in the mind of Jim Morrison can make for an enjoyable experience or a headache induced one. I kinda got both which is what the film wanted to do. Oliver Stone who is a strong fave of mine really was in his early days of film experimenting and only within a short time he would develop a signature style which many of his fans love.
Val Kilmer plays 'the poet' Jim Morrison and my god he is amazing. he is probably the closest to being Morrision than anyone else and truly exhibits his spirit. He may not be the Morrsion that those close to him knew but to the Doors fans he was a Rock God Poet and that's what we get.
What stops the film being one of Stone's masterpieces is that it does go nowehere and at 2 and half hours long can be hard for a viewer although it's not as tedious to me compared to people I know who hate it and they are Doors fans. So overall great acting (special mention has to go to Maclachlan who is unrecogniseable) A great period look and not surpriseingly an amazing soundtrack but just lacks a bit more bite to get it all the way there but definitely recomended for Stone fans and lovers of music.
