Review of The Doors (1991) by Elisa G — 16 Apr 2014
I thought this was an awesome film when it first came out and grew to love their music as a result. Having just rewatched it, as an older and "wiser" person with a passion for film, I can only say that the film has a mindblowing performance by Val Kilmer (hence the 2stars) and little else.
There are many inaccuracies and the way Jim was portrayed was very one dimensional and unnecessarily overdramatic. From all i've read and know of Jim Morrison, he was actually quite a sensitive and interesting character and not just "all about the drugs".
This film was not made to tell the story or honour Jim or The Doors but rather to make $$ by exploiting the stupid perception some young people have of the drug counter culture of the 60s. Poor form Oliver Stone...
