Review of The Doors (1991) by Kilo D — 28 Aug 2013
You gotta love the band, they were excellent. But this autobiographical film is a little harder to rate. Personally, I did like this movie, despite its running time surpassing its welcome, and a portrayal of Jim Morrison which is barely flattering to him.
I think that, like all geniuses, he was a real prick to be associated with, but that turns out to be the underlying message of the movie. It's essentially the same old cautionary tale about letting fame get to you head, except this one is also graced with many awesome songs, including a great and very lengthy performance of 'The End', which exactly mimics one of their real, earlier performances.
I suppose people's opinions towards this depend on whether nor not they liked the band, otherwise it would as pointless as sitting through an Abba-based musical whilst totally hating their music.
