Review of The Doors (1991) by Will D — 24 May 2008
The Doors is a full fledged all out assault on the senses, as most of Oliver Stone's more stylistically indulgent films are. Stone loads this movie with impressive but dizzying camerawork and editing to make you feel like you're as high (or higher) than Jim Morrisson was.
This really is for fans of either The Doors or Stone, or both, only. It lacks any real coherent plot, and is more or less an uninsightful look at how Morrisson behaved and how he viewed the world...all set to the music of The Doors.
Albeit, for those who can appreciate Val Kilmer's convincing performance and the stylistic qualities displayed, it's worth a look.
