The door in the floor can be a metaphor off womb & vagina (as suggested in the film); the door also separates men's sanctuary from the unpleasant realistic world. So, this is actually a flick about how men (one debauching man & one coming off age boy) seeing from/in a (the same one, in this case) woman.
Fair in all; only the tone is a bit weird: heavy beginning & end but slightly comic in the middle. Both Jeff Bridges & Kim Basinger were expectantly good.
