Review of The Doom Generation (1995) by Robert F — 04 Nov 2010
This movie is violent, brainless garbage masquerading as an intelligent and deep movie. It belongs to the genre I call 'Psychopathic Snobs'.
In Psycho Snob movies, we have mass murdering killers as our heroes, but their crimes are okay because 'blank'. The exact reason, or 'blank', is different with each film, but regardless, it never seems to be much worse than the 'heroes' own violent crimes.
Dumb and predictable up until the end, which provided the only interesting bit in the film. Without giving too much away, in the ending, the killers themselves become the victims. On one level, it's just trying to make them more sympathetic, but I actually see it as an interesting version of justice. Their punishment is being subjected to the sadistic whims of OTHER psychopathic snobs. The tables are turned against them, and they discover what hell is: becoming your own victims.
