Review of The Domestics (2018) by Roxanne C — 19 Jan 2019
It may seem unfair to rate a movie after only eleven minutes but I cannot tolerate apocalyptic movies where survival is everything and someone behaves stupidly. A man goes out into no man's land where lawless gangs prey on each other and any innocents who happen to venture into them. The man leaves the safe zone where he lives to retrieve his estranged wife. The movie skips over whether she was in a distant safe zone or whether she was at risk, leaving the viewer to wonder if the protagonist has just put both of them in danger in a futile attempt to resurrect his ex's interest.
The next thing we know is main character has found his ex-wife and they are somewhere in no man's land and he is trying to get his car started (his good neighbor tried to warn him about his crappy car before he left the safe zone but Mr. Tinker assured him it was fixed) as a shootout between two hangs breaks out in the background.
So far, so good, since no egregious acts of stupidity have occurred. As they journey through no man's land they need to stop before nightfall since we have been told it is more dangerous to travel after dark. They stop at an isolated house where they discover a young couple murdered in their bed. And it is here, the movie subjects the viewer to an act of utter stupidity.
They choose to sleep in a second story bedroom and both of them have lit candles. We get a ground level view of the second floor window and they did NOT block the window to conceal their lit candles!
