Review of The Do-Over (2016) by Ben C — 27 May 2016
Despite being somewhat raunchy and unusual, The Do-Over is a sign of hope for Sandler's future career. While it does stick to some of its tricks, it tells a somewhat coherent story on attempting to start over, and it surprisingly pays off with him and David Spade in the lead roles.
The humour remains on the verge of offending, but the jokes are finally beginning to be being taken seriously; instead of showing animals urinating or defecating, or even relying on uncomfortable humour, The Do-Over shows some ounces of good comedy that was last seen from the heyday of Sandler movies.
It's not a masterpiece, but at least it's a step in the right direction.
