Review of The Divorcee (1930) by Trent M — 03 Mar 2008
While this film was made before the the Production Code was enforced, it isn't really a "racy" or "forbidden" film with any overt sexuality or immorality. Basically Norma Shearer plays a young wife with a wayward husband who decides that what's good for the gander.
...I know this kind of decision made by a woman would have been more controversial at the time of it's release, but today the film really isn't all that interesting, EXCEPT for the always sparkling Norma Shearer and the character played by Robert Montgomery.
It is well-made fo a talkie, and by that I mean it isn't stagebound per se and does feel "alive". I have also heard a rumor that a silent version was produced at the same time. Still, Norma and Robert are fun.
