Review of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) by Chris W — 22 Mar 2012
I had high hopes for this film, which turned into a long, slumbering journey to the anticlimactic end. I'm shocked at how much high praise has been heaped on this slight vehicle. The main character, who is also the writer of the book which gives this movie its title, is a self-indulgent celebrity who cannot speak.
After about 15 minutes, I found myself dozing off. A telephone call in the background helped call me back to the story, not that I had missed much. The central character seems to think an awful lot of himself, and doesn't seem to develop much depth during the movie.
In the end, I felt that nothing had actually happened.
