Review of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (2007) by Peter P — 12 Jul 2011
Incredibly well told and acted film about the true story of a man who became imprisoned in his own body due to a stroke.
Jean-Dominic Bauby woke one day to find that due to a stroke the only thing he could move was his left eye and eyelid, but still has his mind intact. At first all he longs for is death, and when they do finally figure out a way for him to communicate, he slowly decides to stop pitying himself and uses his memories, imagination and a very slow communication process to live again. It is filmed and edited very well, and Mathieu Amalric gives an outstanding performance.
