Review of The Dish (2000) by Danielle R — 10 Oct 2004
I was reminded that I needed to rent The Dish when I read about it in Smeg's journal. This was one that Little Irish apparently loves, and I can see why. It was charming, sweet, funny, and heartwarming.
And it does a good job of making the viewer feel what it was like to be huddled around a TV with all your family and neighbors watching the first moon landing. And, since this story is told from an Australian point of view, we're free of all that overly-patriotic crap that American films about such events are chock full of.
Dammit, we need something like this to happen again, something that captures everyone's imagination and unites all mankind no matter who you are or where you come from. Things are too gloomy in the world now.
