Review of The Disaster Artist (2017) by Bartek K — 26 Jan 2018
It isn't often that a comedy has the potential winning Oscars. "The Disaster Artist" definitely does due to the fact that it is a very story driven and surprisingly heartfelt film. People were mistaking this movie (myself included) to only be about the making of the movie "The Room" when in reality it was more of a tale of friendship.
It's mainly about the friendship between Tommy Wiseau (played by James Franco) and Greg Sestero (played by Dave Franco), and their quest towards fame. Everybody was great in this movie, in fact this is easily Dave Franco's best performance.
One of the things that I liked most about this movie is that it wasn't a trash talk movie. This is definitely James Franco's best directorial work, because instead of just taking the easy path of making fun of Tommy, he shows the good qualities of him as well, such as the fact that he was committed to making this movie, and he was determined that he would do it correctly, which leads me to my next point.
It's absolutely heartbreaking when you do something expecting one result, and you end up with the opposite result, and that's what happened with Tommy. He tried really hard to make his movie good and it was, but not in the way he wanted.
"The Disaster Artist" is my fourth favorite film of 2017, and earns itself a 4/5.
