Review of The Disaster Artist (2017) by Luke E — 22 Nov 2017
Off the bat, upon walking out of 'The Disaster Artist' I began to think; how many other films have a seen where the audience was really laughing out loud? Coinciding with the fact that a year since I read Greg Sestero's superb book I would finally see the much anticipated film adaptation about the the making of one of the greatest 'bad movies' in history before becoming the cult sensation it's now largely (in)famous for :P.
First off the film is a superb and truly hilariously entertaining autobiographical/slice-of-life type of film I've seen, almost comparable to the likes of Tim Burton's 'Ed Wood' centering on an unusual real life character whose endearing friendship with your average aspiring actor leads him to experiencing the disastrous and truly mortifying hilarious production condition on what will become 'The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies.
' While, James Franco is by no mean a 'great filmmaker' in any way, this film is most certainly his finest directorial effort yet, as is his superb performance as the star, writer, producer and director of 'The Room'; Tommy Wiseau.
Otherwise the film is a great celebration on the obscure cult phenomena that 'The Room' has become as well as offering us an insightful, well performed and entertaining film that I can't highly recommend enough, that it may as well be one of this year's most surprising films to be talked about all year.
Definitely worth the wait and the overall watch.
