Review of The Disaster Artist (2017) by Brandon W — 20 Dec 2017
The Disaster Artist is directed by James Franco, and it stars James Franco, Dave Franco, Seth Rogen, and Alison Brie in a biographical dramedy about how Greg Sestero (Dave Franco) and Tommy Wiseau (James Franco) met each other, and how they managed to make their film called The Room that is one of the worst films of all time.
This movie was one of the most anticipated films of 2017 for me because I've seen The Room and really enjoyed how bad this is, and is really interested that James Franco wanted to even do this film adaptation of The Disaster Artist that is written by Greg Sestero and Tom Bissell.
So for the fact that I actually drove about an hour to see this movie with my friends that have seen The Room with me, I can say that the driving to see it is worth it. James Franco is fantastic that sounds almost exactly like Tommy Wiseau, and the rest of the cast are great also.
The writing by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber is fantastic that shows how Tommy Wiseau talks in his own way, the great chemistry that the two leads have as great friends that you understand why they work in their own way, and actually has a balance from Tommy Wiseau's persona that shows the good aspects from the way he acts, and the horrible aspects that he acts during the production of The Room, but never to the point that you think he's a awful human being that makes you not want to even see his film.
The movie is really funny that you're actually laughing with the film, whereas you are laughing at The Room. I was also glad that in the credits they show the comparisons of the movie's version of The Room and The Room, and it's fantastic how James Franco managed to get the shots down to an absolute tee, and the true story itself is so ridiculous that you probably might think that it's can't possibly be true.
So while I love The Room for how it came to exist and how bizarrely bad it is, I love The Disaster Artist for how good it is that brought the story to life in the big screen that created one of the best worst films of all time.
