Review of The Disaster Artist (2017) by Alex G — 07 Jan 2018
Despite Franko's terrific performance, it bends over backwards to sugar coat the story for a general audience. Greg, much like Nick Carraway in Great Gatsby, fades into the background as our POV for Tommy.
It all builds to a finale you just can't believe is real...and its not. I read the book not long after and was saddened to see how little of reality the movie kept. While the book triumphs on all levels and tells a complicated fascinating tale, the movie dumbs it down and loses the nuance of its leading man.
