Having been a huge admirer of The Room, as well as the mystique that surrounds not only it but also it's enigmatic creator, I could not have been more excited to see The Disaster Artist, and it certainly did not disappoint.

Movies about creating art are always popular, and this is surely one of the best. Funny, in-depth and surprisingly poignant, Franco explores the making of the film and the attitude of Director/Producer/Writer/Star Tommy Wiseau, who's behaviour is almost as inimitable as his accent.

Far from being presented as a cheap caricature, Franco truly brings Wiseau and his wacky ways to life, flaws and all. He's a dreamer, he's a madman, he's an optimistic, he's esoteric, and you never now which ways he's going to go.

He's a guy who had a vision, an idea, and he went all the way with it when everyone else said it would never work. Old hat, I know, but what makes it so engaging is the warmth and humour that is injected into the story.

Nary a scene passes without a laugh-out-loud gag or insight into the man's bizarre project. The Room itself is such an oddity that any story about its inception would have been great; in Franco's hands its downright fascinating.

I love how common criticisms about the films story, screenplay and character motivations is woven into the script itself, and how the cast of the movie openly conceded that it was going to be terrible but stuck with it anyway, possibly out of morbid curiosity.

The cast they assembled for this film is astounding, and there's not a single weak link in it. It's directed with panache, acted with passion and assembled with love and care. I hope it will introduce the insane wonders of The Room to a whole new generation, and those who already know of it, myself including, can have a whole other appreciation of the joy that Mr.

Tommy Wiseau had brought into our lives, no mater how unprepared for it we initially were. Smart, funny and truly eye-opening, The Disaster Artist is an absolute must-see for any fan of cinema, whether it be the films that make us laugh, cry or both at the same time.
