Review of The Disaster Artist (2017) by Evan J — 18 Dec 2017

The Disaster Artist was my most anticipated movie of 2017. I love The Room and it's ridiculousness. I've also read The Disaster Artist book; which is the main reason for my anticipation of this movie. It's easily one of my favorite books. The story behind The Room and how it got made is utterly fascinating.

After seeing The Disaster Artist, I am ecstatic! I absolutely adored this movie. Not only did this movie meet my incredibly high expectations; it surpassed them. I was smiling like an idiot during its entirety. It's down right hysterical. I was in tears on more than one occasion. This is perhaps the most fun I've ever had at a movie. James Franco is a revaluation as Tommy Wiseau. I truly believe he should be nominated for as Oscar. Honestly, I think he deserves to win it just as much as any other of the front runners. The Disaster Artist has this kinetic energy that I cannot explain. I felt like I was on cloud 9 during the entire run-time.

I found this movie to be very heartfelt and inspirational. Yes, Tommy Wiseau is arguably the worst actor of all-time; but the man never gave up. He was fearless and didn't take no for an answer. Tommy had a dream and he did whatever was necessary to fulfill his dream. I was truly inspired walking out of the theater.

All of the performances are outstanding. Going into TDA I knew Zac Efron was in the film, but I did not know who he was playing. He plays a very small role, but an icon one nonetheless and he absolutely knocks it out of the park. I also loved Josh Hutcherson as Denny. I think the main reason this movie succeeds so much is because of the chemistry between James Franco and Dave Franco as Tommy and Greg. Both of them give career best performances.

I can't stress enough how much I loved as enjoyed this movie. It's a fantastic adaptation from the book (I highly recommend reading it if you haven't). Wouldn't it be amazing if this went on win Best Picture, while The Room is deemed that worst movie of all time. That's a world I want to live in.

P.S. I'm pretty certain they did a shot for shot remake of The Room. They showed a few side by side scenes at the very end and it was incredible and absolutely spot on. We need to get full release of that on the Blu-Ray.
