Review of The Disaster Artist (2017) by Ben T — 09 Jan 2018
I am a bit disappointed that this movie ever received any actual serious awards buzz. My guess is that expectations of the quality of the film were so low that the pleasant surprise for people somehow turned into something more.
James Franco plays James Franco from Pineapple Express, but with a decidedly-not-spot-on accent. I sincerely hope that voters seeing that derailed his nomination and not the sexual assault allegations.
Dave Franco, as usual, has all the depth of a kiddie pool, but some supporting actors have their moments (Josh Hutcherson, Jacki Weaver, Zac Efron). And anything outside the absolutely, side-splittingly funny middle of the film, is completely void of substance.
All of that being said, the absolutely, side-splittingly funny middle of the film makes it a must-see nonetheless.
