Review of The Disaster Artist (2017) by Edwin C — 02 Sep 2018
Tommy Wiseau, The Disaster Artist. This is based on a real story of how Tommy Wiseau created the best worst film of all time, The Room, according to most critics and audiences.
Those who know The Room, we've always wanted to know what the hell was happening during the making of the film, here's your chance to find out in The Disaster Artist. You don't necessarily need to watch The Room, but it surely helps to appreciate The Disaster Artist more.
James Franco portrayed Tommy and also directed this film, and put on a strong impression of the man himself but what's weird is that James is buff but the real Tommy isn't.
Dave Franco has always hated being called "James Franco's brother". And James took this opportunity to cast Dave alongside him and now we'll all remember him as Dave, or Greg Sestero, the character he acts as.
Tommy is the most mysterious person ever as nobody knows where he comes from, or how old he is or his source of income. And this film chronicles about the love-hate friendship between Tommy and Greg as they plan to be Hollywood's top movie stars but ended up making the best worst film ever. The kind of film that is so bad that it's good.
The acting is superb and we all can agree that James was snubbed from the Oscar because of his sexual allegations. But the film did get a nomination for its screenplay which was amazing as well. The dialog given to Tommy is just so Wiseau-like and no one can figure out his accent. Though I think he's mocking those old Asian uncle accents.
The film did a very good job in adapting the story and portraying the real life individuals involved with The Room. There was no sugarcoating and that's the most important thing in a true story adaptation.
After The Room was released, Tommy and Greg parted ways but this film reunited Greg and Tommy together. And they're gonna make another movie. But will Greg and Tommy ever make a good movie? Or even achieve their dreams of being Hollywood's top movie stars?
