Review of The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) by Jason Y — 26 Sep 2010
The beginning of this film is awesome, creepy, and disturbing -- but, unfortunately, it's really the only part of the movie that is. As the tale of two men kidnapping an heiress unfolds, it all just becomes way too much like a soap-opera, with preposterous twists piling up until I found myself irritatedly begging for the ending -- because at least then, I'd finally have a resolution to this drivel.
After the first couple of twists I said, "Why can't it just be a good old-fashioned torture porn?!" But alas, despite the plot's downward spiral into absurdity, I still enjoyed it enough to recommend to other horror fans.
It's not garbage, it's just not as good as it could have been.
