Review of The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) by Deric E — 11 Nov 2010
A dramatic story about the abduction of a millionaire's daughter, featuring only 3 actors throughout the entire movie. One of them being Gemma Arterton. For those of you familiar with her body of work, this would mean that 1/3 of the movie would be shit.
Shockingly, all three leads were exceptional and should warrant a number of nominations from various awards. Eddie Marsan's Vic is a lot like his character Scott from 2008's Happy Go Lucky, and just as perfect. Gemma Arterton shocks us by baring it all for the camera and then even being oh so adept at playing a victim. Best of all is Martin Compston with his character Danny, and to see why it is recommended that you watch the film.
The film is about two men who kidnap a woman. While stories featuring a ransom can seem quite cliched, this one has a whole lot of twists and turns that will indeed stun. The Disappearance of Alice Creed is masterfully directed and scored; it's extremely riveting and thick with suspense.
Undoubtedly the cream of the crop of its genre, this should be sweeping up some nice accolades come the end of the year. Highly recommended.
