Review of The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) by Geneviève C — 26 Nov 2010
There is so much said about this film within the first 5 minutes without the actors needing to speak at all. I thought it was a strong beginning, with seeing the two men preparing for the kidnapping. And once Alice (Gemma Arteron) was kidnapped, the film only got better and better. There are a lot of twists and turns in this film. You're not really ever sure of who to trust, who is double crossing who....it was definitely done well in that aspect.
And I have to say even though she isn't raped, I could feel her pain and humiliation as they stripped her, and forced her to pee in a cup in front of them. I just felt a surge of pride when she managed to break free (twice I might add). I was definitely rooting for her....but like I said earlier, it was hard to tell at times who was trustworthy and who was not. Who was going to help Alice, who was not.
And I thought the acting was nice (most notably Gemma's) and I also liked the directing. I think this just proves that you don't need a big budget or fancy special effects to make a good movie.
