Review of The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) by Filipe F — 24 Dec 2010
The first five minutes of this movie are more riveting than any movie I can remember seeing in a long time. Two men are preparing to kidnap a woman. We see a montage of their wordless preparation; their moves are swift and assured, their efficiency is chilling.
Alice Creed, the woman, is bound up, and tied to a bed, naked and with a bag over her head. She's terrified. And we're terrified. But I guess that sort of mood is impossible to sustain for an hour and forty minutes, so we learn a few things, and then a few things more and the movie turns into something else.
Still entertaining, though. But not what was promised initially in that horrifying beginning. Worth a rental.
