Review of The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) by Tom B — 31 Jan 2011
A brilliant cult Brit film where not much happens but the acting makes it impressive. Kidnapping at its best.
Gemma Arteton (St Trinians, Tamara Drew and Prince of Persia) does not go missing in this.
I liked this. It was impressive enough with some clever turns and writing and some convincing acting (well from 2 of the 3 stars).
Tense, solid subject matter and clever direction make this film enjoyable to watch and entertaining.
It is all about a couple of men who kidnap a rich daddy's girl for the ransom money. It is sinister, dramatic and quite dark, without being too graphic. The acting is strong and convincing and the plot twists are effective, even if the end is a little weak and arguably over-trying.
Slick, smart and solid, short kidnapping drama.
