Review of The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) by Kevin G — 21 Mar 2011
It's a solid thriller that has it's own uniquely interesting twists. None of the characters are definably good and bad, they all sort of have their own motives, which makes this partially a test of which character you're rooting for in the end.
Part of the reason it works is because everyone is just so amazing in it. Gemma Arterton, Martin Compston, and Eddie Marsan all give really intricate and intense performances. The main issue with this is some of it does come off a little ridiculous at certain points and I think the script itself is kind of thin.
Overall though, what makes it worthwhile for me is Gemma Arterton. This pretty much just further reinforces my giant crush on her and gives her the opportunity to give a really great performance. There's also a lot of gratuitous showing off of her body, which I guess I really wouldn't complain about, except given the context it kind of made me feel sick inside.
