Review of The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) by Michael V — 02 Oct 2011
What a fantastic thriller. Wonderful debut from J Blakeson whom I'm eager to see what he gives us next. Apparently working to a tiny budget, he's proved that he has an incredible understanding of what makes a thriller film work.
The entire cast consists of just the three. And all of them turn out terrific performances. Every moment is believable. No over acting. No out doing scene stealing. All very natural. The script is fresh and the plot twists are very well done since it never feels like there is going to be one.
Very very clever film that trades story and characters and thrills for big budget. Except for maybe the lack of other actors (which I felt helped the movie) you never really feel that it is low budget.
Top notch clever movie which can be brutal, shocking and a bit disturbing, but if you want a change of pace from the big and brash blockbusters then this is a film to go and see.
