Review of The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission (1985) by David G — 09 Jul 2009
For what it is, The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission isn't terrible but it is a completely unnecessary made-for-TV sequel to the 60's original. It's little more than a rehash of the first film really with many of the scenes and a lot of the dialogue lifted shamelessly from the '67 classic.
Check out the scene where Lee Marvin (who returns as Major Reisman) receives his orders from another returnee Ernest Borgnine, or when two soldiers stop a third from escaping - almost exact duplicates of their original counterparts.
Still, cheap and cheerful rehash or not, it looks pretty good for a TV movie and there are several familiar faces in the cast. Aside from Marvin, Borgnine and Richard Jaeckel who reprise their roles from the original (and don't seem quite as bored as you'd expect them to be) there's Sonny Landham, Wolf Kahler, Ricco Ross and one or two others whom you may recognise.
