Review of The Dirties (2013) by Kirsten K — 02 Oct 2013
I recently saw "The Dirties" and was very impressed with it. Matt Johnson wrote, directed and stars in the film and he did an excellent job. It's shot with a handheld camera which adds to the power and gives the movie a personal feel.
Two high school outsiders, Matt and Owen, are making a project for class about fake-killing a group of bullies they call "the Dirties" but it quickly takes a different and horrifying turn when Matt begins to take the project too seriously.
Even with the subject matter, the film has darkly humorous and even sweet moments. The very end of the film is no laughing matter though. It is heartbreaking and shows the devastating effects bullying can have on today's youth.
