Review of The Dilemma (2011) by Podcasting's Brock ! — 15 Dec 2011
The actual dilemma here is why they marketed this movie as a comedy. Because that expectation does a disservice to the movie. The two leads are known for their comedy work, of course, but this movie doesn't even try to be a comedy.
This is a simple drama about a guy who catches his best friend's wife cheating. I thought Vaughn carried the movie well and Kevin James did a solid job. You aren't going to get anything profound about relationships or friendships here, but as a drama, it plays.
I am puzzled why Ron Howard, of all the projects that cross his desk, chose this project to direct; This script is no 'Parenthood'. Admittedly, the ending is pretty darn pat and a simple conversation about halfway through the movie could have solved a lot of the problems (and could have made the movie at least 15 minutes shorter).
'The Dilemma' is nowhere near as bad as what you may have heard. I wasn't blown away, but I was involved. Mild Recommend.
