Review of The Dictator (2012) by John E — 30 Dec 2012
I really wanted to like The Dictator because of Cohenâ(TM)s superb turn as Inspector Gustave in Martin Scorseseâ(TM)s Hugo, but, alas, it was not to be. The Dictator is uneven. But worst, Cohen is unfunny, even though some of the material is probably quite funny and clever.
There is one scene in which he says about politic what Iâ(TM)ve been thinking. That was tremendously satisfying. It seems Cohen is ready to move on to better fare that allows him to show the breadth of his artistry.
Hopefully he can find a way to make that transition.
