Review of The Dictator (2012) by James G — 12 Jul 2013
How sad to see someone who began his career being brilliantly original already reduced to a one-trick pony recycling the same basic premise over and over. A misfit character plunged into a world he doesn't understand learns a valuable life lesson and recovers to save the day with the help of someone special.
At least with Borat and Bruno it was still relatively fresh, and the fun came from the reactions of people who weren't in on the joke, but this movie doesn't even have that. The only worthwhile moment came at the end with the "imagine if America were a dictatorship" speech.
