Review of The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015) by Nick R — 16 Aug 2015
Difficult and uncomfortable film about a young girl's affair with her mother's boyfriend. Bel Powley is very convincing playing the (American) teenage girl. *Spoiler alert* No happy endings and hardly a sympathetic character in the whole piece.
Not your usual Hollywood fare, and I suppose the better for it, but does it tell us anything we didn't already know - possibly not. Were the 1970s really as brown as this film suggests?
