Review of The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015) by Andrew M — 22 Aug 2015
Early-mid 70s hippie life as experienced by a teenage girl. At least, I think. I'm still squicked out by the 15YO character being nude and having sex on screen (the actress is 23). She's an aspiring artists who draws 70s style hippie paintings, while dealing with her loving but irresponsible mother, and dealing with her self-esteem issues by having an affair with said mother's boyfriend, which leads to more sex and drugs (the later mostly later in the film), and eventually realizing that she's messed things up.
Despite me personally being uncomfortable with a lot of this, the acting's fine, and I'd describe this as pretty much what you'd expect from a slice-of-life film with this subject. On a technical level, this was well made, and there appeared to be a group of film aficionados who quite liked it.
Personally, while I can appreciate what's on film, it's only just OK by my standards.
