Review of The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015) by Steve W — 30 Aug 2015
Based on the book, this tumultuous coming of age tale tells the story of Minnie, who sleeps with her mother's boyfriend in San Francisco in the 70's. The movie does it all from Minnie's perspective, exploring the culture of the times.
There's no cell phone to keep track of people, so Minnie gets into all sorts of sexual experiences while her oblivious drug using mother does nothing. The film is filled with all sorts of angst and some funny bits, but ultimately it wears out its welcome by introducing a major reveal at the end of the film.
The film has good set design and decent performances, but not much else.
