Review of The Diary of a Teenage Girl (2015) by Dana S — 03 Sep 2015
This is a dark, disturbing film. It is partly based on the life of Phoebe Gloeckner, an artist of graphic comics. There are quite a few shocking scenes of Minnie's relationship with her mother's boyfriend, and shots of under-age drinking and drug use, Frankly, I was not prepared for the realistic sex scenes, and there were quite a few of them.
On the positive side, the photography is excellent, as is the acting and directing. The script, written by Phoebe Gloeckner is imaginative and bold. This was not an enjoyable film to watch and the sexuality was way over the top, shocking, in fact.
See this film if you want to be disturbed.
